Guitar
is a popular instrument and very "user friendly". I bring
all my experience from
music theory courses (CSUF) , the studios,
and live performances to your music lesson.
My lessons go at your own pace so there is
no pressure or deadlines. Our goal is to
have fun and teach you some very practical
music skills. Repetition is the key and I ask
all students to practice at least 1/2 hour
per day, and more if their schedule allows.
Advancement depends on how much each student
puts into their practice plan.
My lesson plan is described below:
Beginner: As a beginner, you'll learn basic chords,
rhythms, strumming, and
some basic skills that will lead you towards
your first song and
learning the basics of ear training. Sight
reading can start here
if the student is interested. This is not a
requirement to play guitar.
Intermediate: At this stage, we will expand your knowledge
of chords, song patterns,
ear training, and the ability to hear
tunes off the CD and start to play
them. Sight reading will be advancing if
the student is interested.
Learning basic scales for soloing can
also start here. We will
teach the major, minor, and dominant
scales as well.
Advanced: At this stage, the student should be able to
hear a song and identify
the basic chords, song patterns, basic
riffs for soloing. Also, writing
and arranging your own songs are
possible as well. Arranging techniques
will be taught at this level. For
soloing, we will use and demonstrate
riffs pulled from the Major, Minor, and
Dominant families. Altered chords
such as C7#9, Ami7b5, and others are
taught at this point.
A student can also consider joining a
band with players at his or her level.
Professional: At this stage, I will teach the art of
networking, locating booking agents,
marketing, and promoting yourself
through a network of music contact
services. Most students at this level
locate other musicians and form
bands which perform for fun or on a
part-time professional level. They enjoy
performing at clubs, house parties,
church functions, and all kinds of venues.
Also, I teach how to assemble a
promotion pack which includes your band's
CD, song list, photo, biography, and
website.
I currently teach at The Music House,
Laguna Niguel. (part-time) and
the City of Santa Ana
